There were wins for the 3s, 8s and 9s on a
weekend when not all Polytechnic’s sides had a
game.
With the first XI match versus Old
Uffingtonians in the AFA Cup postponed – it will take place
this coming weekend – and the reserves not in action, top-end
pride was
upheld by the third team.
After suffering the ignominy of being the only
team without a win just weeks ago, three victories on the
bounce have proven what was said all along – that the 3s are
a good side and could turn the corner at any
moment.
They had to dig deep for this one, however,
going a goal down to Norsemen on the main pitch in front of
the clubhouse and struggling to find their passing
game.
However the team is more solid than when they
lost out in extra time to Norsemen earlier this season, and
earned three more valuable points through strikers Symcox and
Spear, who provided one another with close-range chances –
and both were put away for a 2-1 victory.
While the 3s are climbing steadily away from
the foot of their table, the 4s risk being sucked back in
after a 2-1 loss to Old Parkonians.
The fifth team’s match was postponed while the
6s and 7s went down in the LFFJ Cup, at home to the RBS
reserves and away to Lloyds respectively.
The sixth XI were the better side for 40
minutes but two early second-half goals killed the game, and
they eventually lost 5-0. It is unclear whether the RBS boys
will pick up a sizeable bonus for the win (ouch).
Sullivan’s 7s lost 6-1, again to a higher
side: they faced the Lloyds 3s.
The 8s also featured in the LFFJ Cup, winning
3-1 at home to Temple Bar with a good performance.
The
9s won 6-0 away at Weirside Rangers’ fifth side, the league
leaders - showing what they can do when McDermott has a strong
squad to choose from.
