There were several wins for Polytechnic as
the majority of the sides contested cup
competitions.
The first team beat Old Uffingtonians in a
dramatic AFA Senior Cup tie. With the score 5-5 at full-time
- manager Seales having hit a hat-trick with Cringle and
Brown also scoring - the match went down to the so-called
lottery of penalty kicks.
And the Poly emerged from them triumphant by
a margin of 4-2.
The reserves also played away from home, at
Mayfield Athletic in the Middlesex and Essex Cup.
Unfortunately they went down 1-0.
The 3s featured on the main pitch at Chiswick
for the second week running and made it four wins from four with a deserved 3-1
result against Old Wilsonians.
The Poly dominated the first half and should
have been further ahead than 2-0 they managed through Spear
and Buckland; they took their foot off the gas after the
break but still could have scored a few more than a solitary
finish by Symcox.
The 4s were the only other team in league
action, also at home against Carshalton - and they also
triumphed by a 3-1 scoreline.
The fifth side lost 3-2 at Old Edmontonians
in the AFA Cup; and that is the end of the bad
news.
The 6s, defending the AFA Cup, won 4-1: a
brace from Soccer AM star Rushden and one apiece from Turna
and Gaudin did the job.
The seventh team won 6-1 in the same competition at
Winchmore Hill, with Lyons (2), boss Sullivan (2), Williams and
Phillips all notching for the Poly.
In another AFA Cup match, the eighth squad
won 4-2 away at Lloyds after extra time with the score 1-1
after 90 minutes.
The ninth team's game was called off on
Friday.
