The eighth side triumphed 5-0 over the seventh side in the big Polytechnic derby in the AFA Cup while there were victories for the 1s and 3s.

Arguably the biggest game of their season started with a tense first 15 minutes before the 8s settled into a rhythm, producing some really good football against very tough opposition.

Both strikers hit braces, Navarro and Suchma, while Sponiar added a fifth goal. It was the 8s fifth clean sheet of the season. Seventh team skipper Sullivan would not comment afterwards.

The 1s won 3-2 in the MEC Cup, at home to Old Cholmeleians, while the 2s came unstuck at West Wickam. Webster’s men had twice as many chances as the opposition, but West Wickam scored every one and their goalkeeper was man of the match. The reserves however regretted the lack of a regular keeper.

The third side won 2-1 on the railway pitch against Old Parkonians, Symcox teeing up Spear for a header in the second half then the former slamming home a free-kick from 30 yards, low into the bottom corner.

The 4s lost 7-1 away at Civil Service while the 5s ‘got duffed up’ – quote - 3-0 at home to HSBC. The Poly did not take their chances or impose themselves on the game.

The 6s drew 2-2 at Carshalton’s 5th side while back in Chiswick the ninth team secured an excellent win at home to HSBC 7s. An early tap-in from Holmes Reed set things off but much of the game was then dominated by the visitors, repeatedly thwarted by resolute defending and goalkeeping - and a touch of profligacy in front of goal.

In the second half Moran showed no such generosity, first converting one simple chance and adding a more spectacular second before Hutchings
popped up late on for the now traditional centre-half birthday goal, hooking in  from close range.

The Vets lost 3-1 away in the Closed Vets Cup. The score flattered the Poly, who only had 11  players - and then picked up an injury after 10 minutes and another with 20 to go.

It was a typical performance against another well-organised Vets side who play every  week: with the best Poly side out we are a match for anyone – but they don’t always come out.
