Nines have a day to forget.

After a great win two weeks ago against one set of high flyers and a heroically narrow defeat against another last week, Poly unfortunately let themselves down when faced with a seemingly more modest opposition in the form of HSBC 8ths.

Despite good preparation including a range of exotic stretches led by the guesting figure of Chairman Harney, the lads seemed overcome by malaise from the first whistle and the unfamiliar lineup - aren't they always these last few weeks - never found any rhythmn.Another goal for the Reaper, but a grim day for the team.

After conceding a very poor first goal inside five minutes, Grim Reaper Tom fashioned some space in the HSBC box and finished well to make it 1-1 after only nine minutes.  Craig had been instrumental in the move, winning the ball deep in our half and carrying it upfield to create the opportunity.  We hoped it would be a platform for better things but we failed to settle and conceded two more poor goals in the first period.

A modest rally after the break gave us a little bit of hope but lacked conviction.  The best moment saw a tempting cross from Tash set up Danny running in at the back post, but he couldn't keep his header down.  The good spell faded away and two more goals midway through the half ended the contest.  Keeper Dan kept a bit of dignity on the scoreline as the home team fell apart, but could do nothing with the 90th minute penalty that sealed an horrible day all round for the team.

And there was worse news to come later on, but I'll leave that for another time.

MOTM : Mention for Danny who worked hard in his first 90 minute run for a while but the vote goes to Craig - the only one seemingly unaffected by whatever lethargy had overcome the rest of the team.
